No Tent No Chemical Wood Pest Treatment

While surfing the web for information on termite treatments I have noticed that most firms list the same pre-fabricated cut and paste basic information about different types of termite treatments used. I wondered why most of the basic data claimed that the whole structure poison gas fumigation treatment was the most complete for killing termites on the first application. Yet non of the poison gas lethal exposure risks associated with it’s use was mentioned. The lesser toxic treatments are listed as secondary and/or limited to localized areas only and each has it’s possible drawbacks listed. Clearly the majority of this information is slanted towards high profit industrial poison gas fumigation sales.

The national pest industry shares the same goal for the purpose of creating and conducting smooth flowing profitable business. Most of the industries research and development goes into the science and psychology of customer sales and promotions. Unlike the drugs advertised on TV commercials that also list all the side effects, Pest companies would have a difficult time selling fumigations if they told the public they will run the risk of pesticide poisoning including possible death to humans, pets and plants.

Want Proof? Call a local Termite company and ask them if there is an antidote for termite poison gas exposure should you or a family member or pet becomes exposed to the poison during or after a whole structure fumigation of your home or even a friends? The brand name of a popular poison gas commonly used is “Vikane”. Ask for the truth about termite poison gas treatment because you won’t be freely advised.

Pest industry's rule of thumb is; The success and safety of chemical or non-chemical treatments is directly related to the safe and complete professional application of the product according to it's label. Therefore; the treatment is only as safe & effective as the application performance. There is no exception to this rule.

This also applies to whole structure fumigation with poisonous gas, also referred to as tenting a structure for the control of wood destroying pests such as Termites or wood beetles etc. This type of treatment is often over sold and misunderstood to be a 100% cure all for present and future pests. When in fact, many fumigation fail because of poor application, such as, the tent seal is blown open, not enough gas was used, the weather was to cold etc.. No poison residual is left behind after tent is removed. Termite instinct is to eat their dead before resuming to wood consumption. An unsuccessful treatment may only kill a portion of the colony, when so, it may take up to a year or two for the remaining live termites to finish feeding on the dead before they return to eating wood again. During the lapse of time that the termites are not eating the wood, new evidence of active termites is no longer produced, so often it becomes misbelieved that the termites have been killed from the fumigation, when in essence, they are live and well with plenty of termite corpses to finish consuming before it becomes necessary to feed on wood again.

The best treatments include follow up future annual inspections and control service agreements. Too often, homeowners have their homes fumigated for termites and then forget about it, only to find out fumigation is again recommended needed as little as 2 years down the road or just shortly after their treatment warranty expires. The terrible thing about this often occurrence is it takes about 7 years for a drywood termite infestation to become well established from date of initial attack. It is clearly obvious that many structures undergo numerous whole structure poison gas fumigation without ever achieving successful termite control.
